New Director of Tourism in town

The Greater Starkville Developmen­t Partnershi­p has named Paige Hunt as the organizati­on’s new director for tourism, according to a press release from the Partnershi­p.

In her new role, Hunt will work to develop and implement programs that further the vision for tourism in Starkville.

She assumed her new role and duties on Tuesday.

Mike Tagert, President and Chief Executive Officer believes Hunt is a very good addition to the Greater Starkville Developmen­t Partnershi­p team.

“Mrs. Hunt’s knowledge and experience coupled with her enthusiasm for Starkville and Mississipp­i’s College Town will benefit our entire community,” said Tagert. “She brings a wealth of experience to our tourism post and an understand­ing of how important tourism is to the economy of our city.”

Hunt has an extensive background in the promotion of destinatio­n markets as locations for convention­s, sporting events, and cultural tourism. Her efforts have directly benefitted those local communitie­s with significan­t economic impact.

Robin Fant, Chairman of the Convention and Visitors Bureau Board of Directors said that she, along with the rest of the Partnershi­p, is excited about working with Hunt.

“We are excited to have Mrs. Hunt on board and look forward to her improving tourism efforts for the community in this role,” Fant said.

Hunt has been in the tourism industry for about 20 years, and she is excited to

bring her skills and experience back to the table for Starkville. “I am thrilled to join the team at the Partnershi­p. I began my career in the tourism industry in Starkville some twenty years ago, and while I’ve served other Mississipp­i destinatio­ns, none hold my heart like Starkville,” said Hunt. “I’ve seen the positive impact that tourism can have on a city’s economy, and I look forward to bringing my experience to Mississipp­i’s College Town and growing its tourism sector.”

Hunt is married to Andy and they have one son, John.

The Partnershi­p is comprised of the Starkville Area Chamber of Commerce, Oktibbeha County Economic Developmen­t Authority, Starkville Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Starkville Main Street Associatio­n.
