A Bernie Sanders meme is a hit with Starkville businesses

- By CAL BROWN

At President Biden’s inauguration on Wednesday, two-time presidential candidate and longtime Vermont Senator Bernie

Sanders took a seat in a folding chair with his legs and hands crossed as he waited for the ceremonies to begin.

Once the photograph of this reached the internet, the rest was history.

The internet, Twitter specifically, exploded this past week with comedic photoshop jobs of the senator sitting in places ranging from courtside at an NBA game or on the moon next to Neil Armstrong.

As the old saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words. In this case, it is more worth over 100,000 memes.

The whole country has jumped in on the lighthearted

fun, especially right here in Starkville when the senator decided to drop by town for a few days.

Thomas Brothers Formalwear on Highway 12 hopped in on the fun when Sanders found himself sitting on top of their advertising sign. Sources say he was looking for a nice tuxedo at a good price.

After he left Thomas Brothers, Sanders went to Insurance Associates on Taylor Street to see about how he can lower his insurance rates. While he was there, he found himself quite comfortable on the couch.

When he woke up from his nap, he decided to come right by our Starkville Daily News office on Lampkin Street to help the staff organize stacks of previous newspapers.

When he left the SDN, he then stopped by City Hall to see his good friend, Mayor Lynn Spruill. After catching up with Spruill, he waited outside of City Hall for the next SMART bus to come by. To close out his trip to Starkville, the senator stopped by the Mississippi State University MAFES Sales Store on campus to pick up some cheese, because you cannot just visit Starkville without getting some MSU cheese.

After a stressful January, humor is the one thing sure to bring people together, and a little good, light-hearted fun is always appre- ciated.
