An unlikely family with a mother dog and a baby goat formed

- By JESSICA LINDSEY

On Saturday, Feb. 20, we at Starkville Daily News took to Facebook to ask for pictures for National Love Your Pet day. We were flooded with wonderful pictures of all kinds of pets from puppies and kittens to horses and other farm animals.

Well, during all of the freezing madness of last week, a Starkville family welcomed a baby goat named Lucky on Friday, Feb. 19 to their farm. Drew and Steve Morgan own Morgan Family Goats, which is a local goat farm that specializes in raising Kiko and Boer goats.

The Morgans shared the story of Lucky with us on National Love Your Pet Day.

The day after Lucky was born, his mother died after complications after birth. Thankfully, the Morgans have a livestock guardian dog named Dolly (after the country music queen Dolly Parton) who just gave birth to a litter of puppies only three weeks ago. She took her guardian role seriously and adopted Lucky as one of her own.

The Morgans commented on the precious moment between the new unlikely family.

“We put Lucky in with the pups hoping Dolly would at least keep him warm, and she has done that and more!” said the Morgans. “The love of a mother cannot be compared. Lucky to have someone to take him in!-is what my niece came up with. It is a family farm after all.“

During the cold, the three-week-old puppies huddled together with Lucky for warmth under a heating lamp. They truly looked like a happy farm family. For updates in Lucky’s story, head over to Morgan Family Goats on Facebook.
