COLUMBUS – Mississippi University for Women will host the fifth annual International Music by Women Festival in March.

The 2021 festival will be virtual and will feature 31 daily concerts at 7:30 p.m. CST March 1-31. The concerts will be streamed on the festival website and the festival Youtube channel. All concerts are free and open to the public with no additional information needed to access the content.

The Music by Women Festival features concerts of music written by women composers historically as well as in the present day. The 2021 festival will feature more than 130 performances of works by women composers. The composers and performers are from all around the world.

All of the content will remain on the festival Youtube channel, so the public will be able to enjoy the music at any time following the video release. The complete festival program and schedule will be available on the festival website prior to the event.

“We are honored to organize a virtual event of such magnitude,” said

Dr. Julia Mortyakova, The W’s Department of Music chair and artistic director for the Music by Women Festival. “The festival concerts will feature performances of the highest caliber and will allow the audience a small glimpse into the vast body of work composed by women. The public is invited to celebrate Women’s History Month with 31 days of music.”

Funding from the Mississippi Arts Commission, a state agency, and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency, provides support for this project.
