Local creative to release a short film

- By JESSICA LINDSEY

Wil Bane is the sole member of the Alkyli Project, a creative project Bane intends to use to promote his artistic side with things like short films and music. The Project will see its first short film release on Friday, March 19.

The short film is titled “Cold,” and Bane took inspiration from the recent cold weather and eventually ice and snow that hit the area. His inspiration came from around him, but with many days this winter bracing against the bone-chilling cold, he needed a release for his own creative abilities.

“I got interested in screenwriting a while back and Cold was an easy enough story to tell to get my feet wet when it comes to filming side,” Bane said. “Since Alkyli Project is my venture, save for when a couple friends of mine are involved in production, it means creative freedom. I love that.”

“Cold” is a fictional tale that centers around just two characters at the end of a long nuclear winter.

“You find inspiration everywhere,” Bane said. “I found inspiration one Saturday, wrote the screenplay, and myself and two of my best friends Alan White and Vernon Brown - who plays the only other character aside from my own - shot it the next day.”

He also took advantage of the ice storm last week and was able to capture some footage around Starkville for some secondary shooting.

The short film will be available on March 19 on the Alkyli Project’s website; alkyliproject.com.

It will also be available on the Project’s Youtube and Facebook pages.

“I’ve got even more stories lined up, many music projects going,” Bane said. “I’m putting out the Project’s first full-length LP this fall and I have a ton of cover song ideas.”

In addition to “Cold,” Bane intends to release music this year through the Alkyli Project which will include a cover of the Metallica song “Blackened in the Summer” along with a full-length album. This is expected to be released sometime in the fall.
