Dominique Bush and Mckee Mulrooney of Starkville High School will continue to be teammates on the soccer field at the next level.
Even though it wasn’t necessarily a part of a plan, Bush and Mulrooney are happy that it worked out that they are joining the Meridian Community College program.
“I’m ready for it and look forward to it,” Bush said. “I already know how he plays and know the chemistry so it’s going to be an easy thing.”
Bush said he talked with Mulrooney a little bit about the possibility of gong to Meridian together, but it eventually just worked out that way.
Mulrooney said he and Bush are going to try to be roommates at Meridian Community College and likes the fact they play on the same side of the field.
“We both went with Meridian because we both got the same opportunity,” Mulrooney said. “We both play on the right side so we have good chemistry.”
SHS boys soccer coach Evinn Watson was glad to play a part in the progress of Bush and Mulrooney.
“I’m very happy that they are both going to play soccer past high school,” Watson said. “It helps me feel a little better and shows that I at least did a little bit to better them as soccer players and as men. I’m very excited to see them go play somewhere else, especially at the same school, hopefully the same side and see them mesh really well together in junior college.”
Both players appreciated the atmosphere at Starkville High School and their time on the soccer field as Yellow Jackets.
Bush said “it’s my home,” while Mulrooney said high school has prepared him for what’s to come in junior college.
“It’s taught me how to be a good teammate and a good captain,” Mulrooney said. “I’ve learned so much from my teammates. I’m ready to learn so much more with a new chapter at Meridian.”
