SHS players look forward to future

- By DANNY P. SMITH

Zoe Elder and Kyler Reeves brought leadership in different ways to the volleyball court at Starkville High School.

When it comes to moving on with their careers, coach Sierra Pittman said the two Lady Yellow Jackets have what it takes.

“I’m actually excited to see them both go and play at the next level,” Pittman said after the two players signed on

Monday. “They were leaders both on and off the court. I’m really happy with them and hopefully the future should hold for them.”

Elder, who will be taking her volleyball talents to Millsaps College, was a talented athlete at SHS as she was also involved with soccer and tennis.

She was glad to be able to attend a high school where there were many options to develop as an athlete.

“It means a lot that I got to try everything here,” Elder said. “I got to experiment with a lot to stuff, found what I was good at and what I enjoy.”

The reason why Elder chose Millsaps was the size and location of the school with smaller class sizes and the opportunity to play four more years. She likes the academic program at Millsaps and the fact it’s not too far away from home.

Reeves has elected to attend Shawnee Community College in Illinois.

The chance to make that program better is what attracted Reeves up north.

“It’s more of a new program so hopefully I’m going to go in there, start it off good and make it a better team than it has been,” Reeves said.

Reeves thanked Pittman for training her the right way as a Lady Jacket.

“Coach Sierra has always pushed me to my limit,” Reeves said. “I love her and she has prepared me so much to get in there and get my work done.”
