Starkville’s Miss Hospitality crowned
On Thursday, Claire Farmer, a senior at Starkville Academy, was crowned by her predecessor Kate Mattox as Starkville’s Miss Hospitality 2021 at The Partnership in . Farmer has chosen Bailey Thompson as her Little Miss.
Farmer graduates this year, and she will go on to college at Mississippi State University where she will major in interior design. True to her title as Miss Hospitality, Farmer’s biggest influencer in choosing her major is working on beautifying Mississippi. She wants to be able to make old antebellum homes more modern on the inside but still with that old Southern charm.
Starkville’s Miss Hospitality will go on to compete in July in Hattiesburg for the title of Mississippi Miss Hospitality. In order to qualify for the title, a competitor must be a Miss. resident, must represent her hometown not the town she is in college at, must be between 18 and 24-years old, and must have at least a 2.5 GPA with a high school diploma and plans to a attend college if she is not already a college student.
Scott Griffin who is in charge of Starkville’s Miss Hospitality said Farmer is a wonderful candidate to represent Starkville and they have high hopes for her in the state competition in four months.
“This year we are very fortunate because Starkville has been represented by some very outstanding young women in the Miss Hospitality system,” Griffin said. “When you go to Hattiesburg for the state pageant which is always at the Saenger Theater, they’re always looking for Miss Starkville. They know Miss Starkville is going to be an outstanding young lady, a solid contestant, and this year is not going to be any different. It is our honor and privilege to introduce Miss Claire Farmer to you.”
Miss Hospitality represents all that Mississippi has to offer, and she works with local and state governments to help showcase beautiful parts of the state that many people may not know about.
“Miss Hospitality is Mississippi’s goodwill ambassador.it is partially sponsored by the Mississippi Tourism Commission and the purpose of the job is to advance tourism and all the great places to visit, all the great things we have to offer to the state of Mississippi,” Griffin said. “Our Miss Hospitality is regularly called on by the Tourism Commission and our governor to represent our state and we know that Claire is going to do an outstanding job in doing that.”
Farmer is thrilled to be crowned Starkville’s Miss Hospitality, and she is looking forward to the state competition in July which will be in-person after last year’s pageant was done completely online because of COVID-19.
“I’m just really blessed and excited for this opportunity that I have to represent Starkville, so thank y’all,” Farmer said.
Farmer will represent Starkville in the state title pageant from July 11-17 in Hattiesburg.
