Local women organize animal shelter supply drive

- By JESSICA LINDSEY

Tori Chestnut and Heather Craddock, both realtors at ERA Real Estate, are putting on a supply drive for local animal shelters on Saturday, March 20 at 111 West Main Street in Downtown Starkville.

The supply drive will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and if it is rained out, it will be rescheduled for the following Saturday - March 27.

They will not only focus on the needs of Oktibbeha County, but also Clay County. Clay County West Point Animal Shelter saw damage from the ice storm in February and they have been unable to have some of their larger fundraising events due to COVID-19. Of course shelters could always use the help, but this past year has been particularly hard on organizations who rely heavily on the community.

The supply drive is family friendly, and it is only fitting that you are not only welcome to bring your four-legged family members but encouraged to bring them. Lunches will be given to those who donate, and there will be hundreds of dollars in gift cards that will be given away. Local Girl Scout troops will be selling Girl Scout cookies, and there will also be goodie bags for the children.

The Clay County shelter needs dry cat food (Meow Mix and 9Lives), Fancy Feast canned food, Purina dog and puppy chow, Oinkies pork rolls, any dog bones that are not Milk Bones, and all cleaning supplies.

The Oktibbeha County Humane Society is in

need of Purina kitten and cat chow, canned cat food (Pate Style), Diamond Maintenance puppy and dog food, canned dog food, any type of cat toy, Kong toys for dogs, Bully sticks, long lasting chew toys for dogs like Tuffy toys, unscented cat litter, cleaning supplies, and heating pads.

This Saturday is projected to be sunny but a little chilly with a high of 63 degrees, so if you make your way to this awesome cause, make sure you and the family are dressed warmly. It is sure to be a great time for everyone.
