Cooks, Morris to transfer from MSU
with Caterrion Thompson, right. Cooks and Morris could have returned to the Bulldogs for a final year of eligibility, but
It was anticipated when Sidney Cooks and Yemiyah Morris went through senior day ceremonies at Humphrey Coliseum on February 28 that they would not return to the Mississippi State women’s basketball team.
On Thursday, they made it official on social media.
Cooks was first to release her statement and revealed her plans to transfer. After earning a Political Science degree from MSU in May, she will enter law school.
In a Twitter message, Cooks thanked Bulldog Nation for the “support and encouragement these last two years.”
“From my time on the court to the emotional support shown during the events this past summer, you have always been there for me,” Cooks wrote. “Thank you to my teammates and lifelong friends for all of the great memories we made together. Thank you to al my coaches who helped me on and off the court. Mississippi State and this community will always hold a special place in my heart.”
Cooks played in 19 games for MSU last season and started 15 of them. She averaged 6.1 points and 3.3 rebounds per game.
Morris also played in 19 games for the Bulldogs. She scored 3.2 points per game and pulled down 2.6 rebounds per outing.
The message that Morris gave on Twitter was much like the one left by
Cooks.
“I’d like to thank the fans and community for your love and support of me and my teammates the last two years in Starkville,” Morris wrote. “To my teammates, I’ve loved the two years I’ve gotten to grow with you all, and I wish you guys all the best.
“I am on track to earn my bachelor’s degree from Mississippi State University, and then I will spend my final year of eligibility as a graduate transfer. Forever a Bulldog! Hail State!”
Cooks and Morris join Xaria Wiggins and Jamya Mingo-young in announcing their intentions to transfer from MSU recently.
