Springtime blossoms in Starkville

- By CAL BROWN

After what seemed like a long, cold and bitter winter, spring is finally here.

On Saturday morning, the vernal equinox, which marks the beginning of astronomical spring in the Northern Hemisphere, took place around 4:37 a.m.

That is the precise moment the sun’s rays shine directly on the Earth’s equator.

Of course, spring-like weather can take a while to fully make its presence felt, but for fans of warm weather, this is certainly good news.

Here in Starkville, it is the sign of baseball weather, which is something that most of us in town love.

One Starkville resident said they have been waiting for the warmer weather to come ever since it went away to start last winter.

“I’m personally not a big fan

of the cold weather,” they said. “It’s really just not my cup of tea. Seeing all of the flowers blossom and trees come out of dormancy just makes me feel peace; it really is a beautiful sight.”

MSU student Hasten Wren said he cannot wait to go to Dudy Noble Field to watch some baseball in this weather.

“I’ve grown up going to the Dude and watching the baseball games here, and I know what is good weather for baseball and what is not; this is perfect weather, in my opinion,” said Wren. “For me, there’s just nothing better than going to watch some MSU baseball at the Dude with some of my buddies, especially on a weekend SEC series when you don’t have school the next day. I also really hope the weather stays the way it is now for that series, especially with how unpredictable weather here can be.”

Wren also said he really likes springtime because it is a sign to him that summer is on the horizon.

“I always look forward to the summer and going on beach trips with my friends and the spring being here reminds me that it is not too far around the corner,” said Wren. “Honestly, spring might be my favorite season because everyone is still in town for school and it’s not super hot or super cold.”
