Controllers 4-H group bring a Little Library to Sand Hill
At 10 a.m. Saturday, the Controllers III 4-H Club unveiled a Little Library at the Sand Hill Apartment complex for all ages to fill up and to get books and supplies out of.
The group painted and decorated an old newspaper box to represent the young 4-Hers, and they wanted to give something to a community who is not within walking distance of a public library.
Rose Graham is the leader of the group, and she started their presentation of the Little Library
out strong.
“God is so good that even if you cannot get to the library, the library now came to you,” Graham said. “Some years ago, a young man thought about a little free library. His mom was a teacher, and he wanted to do something in her honor, so he built a Little Library. That was up in Wisconsin, and now they’re all over the United States of America. So you are a legend today because you will have one in your neighborhood.”
Graham, with the other adult volunteers agreeing, encouraged the group of young 4-Hers to use the library to help expand their knowledge. To give them a little incentive to read and take time away from technology, Graham gave the youth a little incentive.
“It is for you to utilize, and once you show that you use it, there will be some awards behind that,” Graham said. “We are awarding y’all because we want y’all to learn. We are fortunate to have a Starkville School District leader in our club. We are able to do a lot because we have a school teacher as a leader. We are community-oriented so we’re able to do a little more.”
Each 4-Her from the Controllers Club was gifted a bag with a book and some school supplies. The Little Library is located right outside of the front office of the Sand Hill apartments, and everyone is encouraged to visit it to stock it with books or to take one out for your own reading pleasure. It is there to serve the whole community, so there will be something for every age category.
