New coaches take charge at Hebron

- By DANNY P. SMITH

It has taken a little while for the Hebron Christian

Lady Eagles to make the transition from the softball field to the basketball court, but coach Tommy Ward believes the adjustments will be made.

After the Lady Eagles won the district in softball and participated in the playoffs,

they have been in a little bit of a catch-up mode in hoops.

Ward has three veterans who should make the transition easy.

“We’ve got one 10th grader, two 11th graders and one senior,” Ward said. “The rest is seventh through nine. I’ve got about 13 players all together. We’re going to have to see how that works out. A lot of them will have to play six quarters which is the max for the night.”

The lone senior is Katelyn Hill, while Ward will also look to juniors Alisha Carter and Leslie Daniels for leadership.

Boys

Just as Ward has taken over as coach of the Lady Eagles, there is also a new face leading the Hebron boys in Chris Lynch.

Lynch looks forward to diving into the coaching realm.

“This is a learning experience for me,” Lynch said. “It’s the first time I’ve ever coached anything. I’ll figure that part out.”

The Eagles have only been together for a few weeks, but Lynch likes how his team is coming together.

Lynch has two seniors with Drake Flowers and Braden Fulgham.

“We’re going to be a short team, but we’re going to be pretty scrappy,” Lynch said. “We’ve got a lot of guys who hustle so I’m looking forward to a good season. We’re just looking forward to the year and playing hard.”

Hebron’s boys will host Calhoun Academy in their first game on November 11.
