I’ll definitely be watching the new Spider-man movie this Christmas

- CAL BROWN

The second trailer for Marvel Studios’ upcoming Spider-man: No Way Home released onto the internet on Tuesday night, sending many Spider-man fans into a craze.

I was one of those many fans.

Any new Spider-man movie can always get me excited, but this particular entry in the franchise has me incredibly excited.

Why’s that? Well, the hottest rumors around this film suggest that previous Spider-man actors Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will be returning to help Tom Holland’s Spiderman take down the villains they once fought.

I grew up watching the Tobey Maguire Spider-man movies, which I still rewatch every now and then to this day.

The idea of Tobey Maguire

returning to the big screen to fight alongside Holland and Garfield against familiar foes gives me great excitement.

I don’t mean to sound crazy or anything along those lines, but Tobey Maguire is my childhood hero, not just because his movies were awesome for the comic book superhero genre, but they are just awesome movies in general. I believe if you take out the action scenes in Maguire’s movies, you’ll still get good content from the character-building scenes.

Nothing regarding Maguire’s return has been confirmed, but plot leaks suggest that he will indeed be in the film, especially since the very iterations of the classic villains he once fought will be returning.

What specifically makes me excited about Maguire’s potential return is what he could teach Tom Holland’s character.

Although I enjoy Holland’s movies, I can’t say I have seen his character grow the way Maguire’s did. As a matter of fact, I don’t think anyone has ever told him the most famous line in comic book history, “With great power comes great responsibility.”

I think Peter Parker realizing that he can’t have both the big friend group and the superhero life at once but him having to choose is what makes the character of Spider-man so unique and admirable, and I want to see Maguire show that to Holland on the big screen.

It could be Holland’s ‘Uncle Ben’ moment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or sort of a passing of the torch from one Spider-man to another.

I don’t know, man. This movie is going to be a doozie for sure. For all we know, Maguire may never have even gotten a call from Marvel.

Will I be disappointed if he didn’t and he’s not in the movie? Actually, yeah, a little bit, but I’m still going to enjoy this film and what it entails.

Spider-man: No Way Home releases in theaters on December 17, a little under a month away.
