Meet the Reporter
Hello all,
After having my name appear in the byline of the Starkville Daily News and the Daily Times Leader, I felt I should introduce myself to you all, as I am here to stay.
Starting immediately, I am now a fulltime reporter, as well as assisting in other areas, for both papers.
Over the past couple of months, I have assisted as an intern, covering multiple events, primarily in sports, but also dabbling on the news side of things, which will be my main focus moving forward.
I look forward to covering news for primarily the West Point and Clay County communities, but I will also assist in the Starkville and Oktibbeha County communities as well.
I would like to thank Cal Brown for assisting in bringing me on, Lindsey Massie for making my transition into this role seamless, and Danny P. Smith for working with me in my articles covering various sporting events.
So, who am I?
Originally, I am from Birmingham, graduating from Oak Mountain High School in 2018, before choosing to attend Mississippi State.
Starting off, I was a meteorology major before realizing that my true calling was in reporting and I have a gift in writing.
That led me to change over into the focus that I graduated with, which was a degree in Communications and a concentration in Digital Journalism and Broadcasting.
Knowing that I wanted to pursue a career in writing, it led to pursuing the position I hold now.
During my college career, I was lucky enough to write for MSU student newspaper The Reflector as a sports writer, covering a number of Mississippi State events, mainly men's basketball.
Throughout that experience, I was able to grow as a writer and gain many skills that I use on a daily basis now, and will continue to use.
As far as where my sports fandom lies, outside of Mississippi State, I am a major fan of the Boston Celtics and the New England Patriots, and love to watch both organizations succeed.
I could not be more thrilled to cover our community, and I look forward to being one of your reporters.
I would love to connect with as many of you as possible via Twitter, @ Davidsmithsdn.
If you have any news leads I need to know about or if you just want to call and have a genuine conversation, feel free to call our office at (662) 323-1642 and ask for me, or you can email me at news@ dailytimesleader.com.
