Area represented well on NEMFCA All-stars
Today's South roster for the Northeast Mississippi Football Coaches Association All-star Game has a definite Starkville flavor.
Along with Starkville High School being represented by offensive lineman Alvin Rodgers, Starkville Academy will have wide receiver Brady Johnson, kicker Dylan Miller and manager Harris Ruffin on the South sideline. Volunteer head coach Chase Nicholson will serve as an assistant coach on head coach Michael Kelly's staff.
Nicholson was excited about the opportunity and to have the chance to be around Johnson, Miller and Ruffin one more time on the football field.
“It's nice for those guys to get to play again and I'm happy to be a part of it,” Nicholson said. “Coach Kelly from Caledonia called me, asked and I never really thought about doing an all-star game.
He asked and I said yes immediately. I was excited about the opportunity.
“I get to coach those guys one more time, be able to watch them one more time and see little Ruff do his thing one more time. I get to meet some great coaches and some great people and be around some great kids.”
The Starkville Daily News coverage area also has linebacker Dajuan Woods and offensive lineman Bryton Woods from Choctaw County, wide receiver Carter Flora from East Webster, and Quintavis Morris from Eupora on the South roster.
Linebacker Chris Dean from West Point will be on the North squad.
“Our area is going to be very wellrepresented,” Nicholson said. “You look up and there are a lot of familiar faces and names.”
The game will be held at Northeast Mississippi Community College's Tiger Stadium with a kickoff time of 6 p.m.
