Good news continues for MSU with word of new indoor facility
Good news continues for the Mississippi State softball program this week.
Upon their return from winning the NCAA Tallahassee Regional and learning they will get to host a super regional in Starkville, the Bulldogs also found out that they would be getting a new indoor training facility.
MSU made the announcement of the 12,000-square foot, $7 million project on Wednesday.
“It's been in the works for a while now with back and forth with different ideas, locations and everything,” State head coach Samantha Ricketts said. “Ultimately the decisions with John Cohen and everyone in between was let's do this right, do it the right way and do something we are going to be proud of. I think that's where we came up with this final design that we are going to build. It's going to have everything possible that we need in there.”
The new facility will be complete with locker rooms, showers, a team training area, team film room and equipment room.
Cohen, the MSU Athletic Director, said it's important for the department to continue the commitment of providing the best resources possible for its student-athletes so they can continue to compete for championships like the one the softball team just won.
“This new facility does just that for our softball program. In combination with Nusz Park, this project continues to solidify Mississippi State as one of the best places in the nation to play college softball,” Cohen said in a statement.
The current indoor facility will be torn down and construction will begin in June. The expected completion date will be the summer of 2023.
Once finished, Ricketts believes it will give the program another added boost.
“This will continue to show recruits that they can come to Mississippi State and be great in this environment, with these facilities and this administration that's really going to buy into this program,” Ricketts said.
