Sales and Ales gets Starkville buzzing

- By ABIGAIL ROCHESTER

The citizens of Starkville were buzzing with excitement after the Sales and Ales event on Thursday, June 9.

The event, organized by the Main Street Association and the Greater Starkville Development Partnership, featured live music, craft beer, and great deals at 18 of Starkville's local businesses.

“We're super appreciative of everyone that supported and bought a ticket. It's just a great way to take advantage of some good sales,” said Paige Watson, the Director of Main Street at the Partnership. “It's a good kickstart for Father's Day and shopping local.”

The businesses reopened their doors after their normal hours to provide the citizens of Starkville with an almost unbeatable combination: discounts and a craft beer in hand.

“It's so much fun. It's a nice summer day,” said Cameron Rogillio, an employee at Occasions. “People come in and shop and have beverages.”

Businesses on Main Street were excited for new customers to be able to come into their stores. Employees who work on Main Street were also excited to be a part of the night, as the Sales and Ales event added variety to the summer norm of Starkville.

“I was really excited when our manager asked us to work it,” Emma Jones, an employee of B-unlimited said, “I was very excited because we do the Unwine event too, and we always love that one.”

Over 75 people participated as drinkers and shoppers in the Sales and Ales event, displaying the support of the Starkville community. One pair of Sales and Ales participants were particularly excited about the event.

While standing in Spring Street Cigars, Dave Holley said, “I think they need to do it every year. They need to keep it going.”

His wife, Joy Holley, had even stronger feelings. She said that Sales and Ales should happen, “As much as they do the Unwine. Because you know the Unwine is several times a year. Maybe they could do this one as often.”

It appears that Joy's wish is going to come true. When asked about the event's success, and the high turnout of the evening, Paige Watson said, “We're excited, and we do plan on having this event again in the Fall.”

Though Thursday night was a success, Starkville has even more to look forward to and buzz about when Sales and Ales returns this fall.
