LETTER TO THE EDITOR

- -Walter P. Okhuysen, Starkville

Irecently discovered a HIDDEN lesson last week upon again pondering the meaning of my father's often repeated "NUMEROUNO Lesson-of-life"; "There are Three Types / Categories of People":

1.) Those who learn the EASY way, from history, the experiences of others, learning from THEIR mistakes and failures, avoiding to repeat them, making smart EASY decisions.

2.) Those who learn the HARD way, failing to LEARN from history, the experiences of others; making the same old mistakes made by others... Traveling down that arduous, rough, deeply rutted muddy road of EXPERIENCE--ONLY learning from ONE'S own mistakes.

3.) Those who choose to NEVER learn.

I find myself, all too often on category THREE, but sometimes fortunately only mired in "number 2" wallowing about in the deepest of clay mud a heck of a lot. Fortunately, when trying as hard as I might and applying my limited remaining faculties, as I have squandered most, I can PROUDLY claim to have traveled a tinyteetsy bit along that incredible FIRST road...

Yet recently finding myself seemingly inextricably mired once again in category TWO, I went down the DARKEST of paths of all, a path of such unmentionable, unspeakable DARKNESS that my wise father knowing the existence of that door and what lay beyond, NEVER EVER, in his lifetime, even acknowledged$its very existence, I now present and reveal what lies beyond that door, for I dared to take a peek:

4.) Those who REFUSE to learn. Seemingly suffering from a psychological delusion that THEY already KNOW ALL

I now reveal to ALL the EXISTENCE of door to PATH FOUR. DO NOT EVEN DARE TAKE a PEEK UNTIL YOU ARE DEFINITELY WISE BEYOND YEARS!

May we find ourselves today, tomorrow, forever traveling the pleasant wonderful first road of life...
