Answer to Prayer

- GWEN YARBER

When was the last time you prayed? Was it a “big” prayer or a “little” prayer? Was it as life-changing as praying for a life partner or as small as finding the right street? Maybe it was such a deep cry to the Lord that words were not even spoken.

Were your prayers answered? Sometimes we pray but fail to recognize when our prayers are answered. We might be like the man who fell off the roof of a barn. As he was falling, he asked God to save him. His pants caught on a nail in the side of the building, and he said, “Never mind, Lord, the nail caught me.”

Nothing builds our faith more than answered prayer. Nothing is more exciting than seeing an immediate answer. Recently, I was traveling from a hospital in a large city to my hometown an hour away. It had been several years since I had navigated those streets and I was not sure I could find the one to take me to the interstate. So, I asked the Lord to guide me. As I left the its duty! It had parking garage, led me straight to I immediately where I needed to pulled up behind go! I still get excited a car that bore in recalling the license plate His answer that of the county to simple prayer. I which I was going. also still rejoice I followed in His answer to it onto the exit the prayer from ramp I needed. my young adult Then, just to be life when I asked sure I recognized Him to guide me God's involvement, to the man He that car pulled off the wanted me to marry. He was ramp and stopped. It had done faithful, and last week my husband and I celebrated our fiftyeighth wedding anniversary.

How wonderful God is! He knows our needs and sometimes answers before we even ask (Isaiah 65:24). The wife of a missionary serving in a foreign country became very ill and could not eat, but she craved oranges. Oranges were not available in that part of the world. One night in desperation, they called out to the Lord for some oranges. The next day a large crate from the United States was delivered. It was filled with oranges! One month earlier, a church in the US had felt led to send the couple a box of oranges. Its delivery was a direct answer to their prayer.

Someone has said, “As a child of God, prayer is kind of like calling home every day.” And there is nothing more exciting than calling home and having your Father answer! Sometimes, we call and do not ask for anything, we just talk. Then there are times when we ask for His help.

Have you called home lately?
