Mississippi State gets tight end out of portal in Goede

- By DANNY P. SMITH

It appears the tight end position will once again be a part of the Mississippi State football offense in the future and the Bulldogs picked up a big piece in making that happen this week.

Georgia tight end Ryland Goede entered the transfer portal and announced on social media that he was joining the MSU program.

He is bringing his fiancee Alexa Fortin to Starkville with him and she will play volleyball with the Bulldogs.

“2 for 1 – the future Goede's are staying dogs #Hailstate,” Goede wrote in a Twitter post Monday night.

Goede was a reserve tight end at Georgia last season and saw his first action with the Bulldogs of Athens in 2021 during a win over UAB. He also played a part in victories over South Carolina, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Charleston Southern and Georgia Tech.

In 2020, Goede missed the entire season for Georgia after having shoulder surgery. He did earn a spot on the Southeastern

Conference Academic Honor Roll that fall.

Goede enrolled at Georgia in January of 2019, participated in spring practice and saw action in two games that fall.

While playing high school football for coach Caleb Carmean at Kennesaw Mountain (Georgia), Goede became ranked as the No. 6 tight end nationally, No. 196 prospect overall nationally and No. 23 prospect in Georgia. He became the school's all-time career leader in receptions, reception yards and tight end catches.

Goede was selected to the All-class 7A, Region 3 first team offense as a senior and junior despite having his senior season cut short due to an ACL tear.

As a junior at Kennesaw Mountain, Goede caught 21 passes for 228 yards and four touchdowns.

Goede seems to be satisfied that MSU can help him achieve status of possibly playing at the next level.

“With a fiancee, 2 years left to figure out if I can chase this dream,” Goede said in a report. “It's all business.”
