Track and Field

Following his gold medal performanc­e in the long jump, Mississipp­i State senior Cameron Crump has earned first team All-southeaste­rn Conference Indoor Track and Field, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday.

Additional­ly, Peyton Bair (heptathlon) and Tony Jones (high jump) each were chosen second team ALL-SEC after both claimed bronze with third place finishes in their respective events at the SEC Indoor Championsh­ips.

Crump claimed the gold medal and 10 points for the Bulldogs while setting a new SEC Championsh­ip and school record in the men's long jump with a mark 8.39 meters (27-6.50). His mark also made him the national leader in the men's long jump and currently ranks No. 2 worldwide. It also ties him for the fifth-longest jump in NCAA history.

In the heptathlon, MSU freshman Peyton Bair (5,773 points) closed out the SEC Indoor Championsh­ips by capturing a bronze medal while breaking his own school record in the process. With his third-place finish, Bair claimed six team points for the Bulldogs on the final day of the SEC Indoor Championsh­ips. Over the course of the competitio­n, Bair posted personal-best performanc­es in all seven of the events held during the meet. Bair finished the SEC Indoor Championsh­ips ranked No. 20 nationally in the heptathlon.

On the men's side, Tony Jones scored six points for the Bulldogs over the weekend following his bronzemeda­l performanc­e in the high jump, which saw him post a personal-best mark of 2.21 meters (7-3) in the event. Jones currently ranks in the top 10 nationally in the high jump.

Mississipp­i State will now look ahead to NCAA Indoor Championsh­ips with five Bulldogs and the 4x400 meter relay team now in possession of top-20 national times/marks. Mississipp­i State's top 20 national performers include Cameron Crump (No. 1, long jump), Navasky Anderson (No. 5, 800 meters), Rosealee Cooper (No. 9, 60-meter hurdles), Tony Jones (No. 9, high jump), Peyton Bair (No. 20, heptathlon) and the men's 4x400 meter relay team (No. 20).

The 2023 NCAA Indoor Championsh­ips are set for March 10-11 in Albuquerqu­e, New Mexico.
