Girl, 9, writes song after massacre

Terrified by the school slaying that rocked Newtown, Conn., and left 20 children dead, 9-year-old Emily Cazeau said when she heard the news, she took to her notebook to help her deal with her feelings.

“It made me so sad, I wanted to write a song about it,” Cazeau, of Miramar, said. And she did. Cazeau began writing her thoughts all over her colorful journal and slowly began to turn her words into lyrics. She said it only took her a couple of hours to finish her song, “Dea r Sandy Hooks,” dedicated to the families of the Newtown tragedy.

“I thought about what happened and all the children that died,” said Cazeau, a student at Sunshine Elementary School in Miramar. She said writing the song made her feel better and helped her “express her feelings.”

The aspiring singer says she hopes it can help others too. To do that, Cazeau worked with her uncle, who is also a musician, to produce a four-minute video and post it on YouTube.

“I told her you could probably bring some healing into the world,” said 28-year-old Diris Cazeau, Emily’s uncle.

He added that working with the young starlet in training was easy, “she’s a fast learner and at the same time it ’s something she wanted to do.”

He promised that as long as she keeps her grades up, he’ll continue helping her with her music.

And that ’s something Emily, who goes by Princess Milly, also understands.

“Grades are important. … If you don’t keep your grades up you’ll miss time working on the songs,” she said.
