A hoax 911 phone call about a supposed shooting at Lake Mary High prompted a lockdown Friday afternoon and the arrest of the alleged caller: a 12- year- old boy.

The boy, a student at a local middle school, used a fictitious name when he called in the false report about a shooting at Lake Mary High School at 12: 16 p. m.

The boy, whose name wasn’t released, was charged with misuse of 911 and disruption of an educational institution, both of which are misdemeanors offenses, according to the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office.

He was taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center.

After an assessment, a determination will be made about release conditions and an appearance before a judge, the Sheriff’s Office said.

“He told dispatchers he was calling from a bathroom at the school,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement late Friday. “Deputies and officers from nearby jurisdictions immediately responded and evacuated students as a precaution.”

Deputies searched the Seminole County school, room- by- room, and ultimately determined there was no shooting.

Hundreds of fearful parents crowded outside the school around lunchtime Friday, waiting to find out what was unfolding inside the campus on Longwood LakeMaryRoad.

Seminole County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kim Cannaday said deputies evacuated students as a precaution.
