Cardinals go extras for 5th straight win

Matt Carpenter hit a sacrifice fly to score Pete Kozma in the 11th inning Saturday as the host Cardinals beat the Pirates 2-1.

The Cardinals have won five in a row, including two straight in extra innings. They defeated the Pirates 2-1 Friday night on Matt Adams’ single in the 10th. Yankees 4, Red Sox 2: Brett Gardner drove in three runs, Nathan Eovaldi pitched well into the seventh as the Yankees won for the 12th time in 15 games. Twins 5, White Sox 3: Trevor Plouffe and Torii Hunter homered off Hector Noesi as the Twins won their third straight. Brewers 6, Cubs 1: Mike Fiers struck out 12 in six innings and Ryan Braun homered as the Brewers won for just the third time in 11 road games. Giants 5, Angels 4: Buster Posey and Brandon Crawford homered and Tim Hudson pitched into the ninth as the Giants held on to win their fourth straight at home. Marlins 7, Phillies 0: Martin Prado homered and drove in four for the Marlins, who’ve won nine of 10. Dan Haren (3-1) allowed four hits in six innings. Blue Jays 11, Indians 4: Jose Bautista had a two-run double while finishing with four RBIs and Russell Martin homered as the Blue Jays piled up 14 hits. Orioles 4, Rays 0: Miguel Gonzalez pitched four-hit ball into the eighth and Steve Pearce drove in two as the Orioles won in a relocated home game. Tigers 2, Royals 1: David Price threw a five-hitter, allowing Lorenzo Cain’s homer with two out in the ninth. Ian Kinsler had the Tigers’ lone RBI. Astros 11, Mariners 4: The Astros hit five homers, including Jose Altuve’s three-run shot, as they won their ninth straight. Nelson Cruz hit two homers for the M’s. Reds 8, Braves 4: Jay Bruce hit a two-run triple and Marlon Byrd and Todd Frazier homered to lift the Reds. Nationals 1, Mets 0: Gio Gonzalez struck out nine in seven innings. Michael Taylor’s infield single drove in the only run. Athletics at Rangers: Nick Martinez (2-0, 0.35) took the mound for the Rangers, who looked to snap a four-game skid. Rockies at Padres: The Padres scored 25 runs while dropping seven of eight before Friday’s 14-3 victory. Diamondbac­ks at Dodgers: Dodgers IF Juan Uribe was batting .324 during an 11-game hitting streak.
