Ex-officer won’t be prosecuted in HIV case
The State Attorney’s Office has concluded there is not enough evidence to prosecute a former police officer who was accused of knowingly infecting a woman with HIV.
Agents with the U.S. Marshals Task Force had arrested Dexter Richardson on July 27 on a charge of having uninformed HIV infected sexual intercourse.
“Although there was probable cause to make an arrest, the evidence cannot prove all legally required elements of the crime alleged and is insufficient to support a criminal prosecution,” Assistant State Attorney Jessica Kahn said in a court document dated May 4.
Richardson’s attorney, Johnny McCray Jr., said his client is pleased with the decision. “It’s a bittersweet feeling for him.” McCray said. “Bittersweet in the sense that he had to go through this all because of a lie.”
