How will the media deal with Bernie Sanders?
It’s not every day you get a selfproclaimed Democratic Socialist jumping into our presidential politics.
I know socialism is a scary word to some, but that’s for another day. How will the media react when they ask a question and actually receive a real answer? I’m not talking about some partisan talking point or hollow campaign speak. I mean real, honest, thoughtful answers.
I happened to catch Sen. Bernie Sanders’ Sunday TV interview with George Stephanopoulos. Stephanopoulos said, “I can hear the Republican attack ad right now. He wants American to look more like Scandinavia.”
Sanders replied, “That’s right. That’s right. And what’s wrong with that? What’s wrong when you have more income and wealth equality?” Stephanopoulos was so surprised by the answer; he didn’t need or have a follow up question.
Sanders has a believable strategy aimed at helping the middle class and a voice the progressive wing of our party and the country needs to hear. I ask the media to listen carefully because maybe for the first time in a long time, we are going to see and hear an honest politician.
