NSU men’s golf wins NCAA regional title

The No. 1 Nova Southeaste­rn University men’s golf team is entering the final rounds of the NCAA Tournament on a roll.

The Sharks delivered a 13-under-275 performanc­e during the final round Wednesday to turn an eight-shot deficit into a 10-stroke win of the NCAA Division II South/Southeast Super Regional.

The regional was played at the Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club in Dade city.

The Sharks had the lowest team score in the final round by13 strokes and took the top three spots on the individual leaderboar­d.

NSU tournament medalist Richard Mansell led the group with a 209 total and two-stroke win over two of his teammates. Santiago Gomez and Oscar Lengdèn carded 211 apiece to claim the next two spots on the leaderboar­d.

Shark Priyanshu Singh finished at 217 and teammate Ethan Marcus finished at 227.

Lynn, NSU’s rival and the leader after two rounds, finished as runner-up with a team score of 855 and advances along with NSU and four others to the Division II national championsh­ips.

The other teams advancing are Barry (875), USC-Aiken (876), Saint Leo (879) and Florida Southern (881).

The 2015 Division II men’s golf championsh­ip starts on May 18 and could span as many as five days. The tournament will be held at the Rock Barn Golf and Spa in Conover, N.C.

UF adds pledge

Winter Garden West Orange offensive tackle Stone Forsythe has committed to the Florida Gators 2016 recruiting class the lifelong Gator fan said Thursday.

“I just wanted to be a Gator. I just want to play in The Swamp,” said Forsythe, a 6-foot-7, 320-pound tackle who added he was eager to play for new coach Jim McElwain. “I’m excited to see what Coach Mac is going to do and they’ve been really recruiting me hard.”

Forsythe picked the Gators over seven other scholarshi­p offers.
