RIVALRY RENEWED: Granted that it’s only summer league, but Monday’s game between the Heat and Detroit Pistons in Orlando will be intriguing after the Pistons elected to select Arizona small forward Stanley Johnson No. 8 in the NBA draft ahead of Justise Winslow, who went No. 10 to the Heat. “Me and Justise, we’ve played basketball together since we were in sixth grade,” Johnson told reporters upon his introduction with the Pistons. “We’ve been communicating from that point on. It’s nothing new to us. People have been comparing us and not comparing us, saying who’s better and who’s worse.” As for those judgments, Johnson said. “It’s basketball. It’s going to happen through my whole career, through his whole career.” BUT NOT THIS ONE: Alas, the Heat’s five-game schedule in Orlando will not include a game against Charlotte unless the teams meet during Friday’s championship round. No sooner did the Hornets opt to select Wisconsin big man Frank Kaminsky then there were immediate questions in Charlotte about bypassing Winslow. It is a debate that Hornets General Manager Rich Cho has elected to leave to others. “I don’t want to really talk about Justise,” Cho told the Charlotte Observer after the draft. “We drafted Frank. Justise is a very good player. We thought Frank was the best available player. That’s why we drafted him.” SUMMER FACES, PLACES: With summer leagues in Orlando, Salt Lake City and Las Vegas this month, there are several familiar faces in summer places. Among those who have spent time in Heat camps in previous years, center Khem Birch will split his summer play between the Brooklyn Nets and New Orleans Pelicans, DeAndre Liggins will work with the Sacramento Kings, Shawn Jones will be with the Washington Wizards and Josh Harrellson will be with the Phoenix Suns. Scottie Hopson, who last season thrived with the Heat’s D-League team, the Sioux Falls Skyforce, will play with the D-League Select team in the Las Vegas summer league, while 2014-15 Skyforce teammate Fuquan Edwin will work with the Pelicans. Among former Heat summer standouts, Ian Clark will be with the Denver Nuggets, James Nunnally with the Indiana Pacers and Eric Griffin with the Los Angeles Clippers. As for those who played collegiately in the state, former University of Miami guard Durand Scott will be with the Milwaukee Bucks, former Florida State forward Okaro White with the Memphis Grizzlies, former South Florida center Jarrid Famous will be with the Wizards and when it comes to former Florida Gators, Scottie Wilbekin will be with the Orlando Magic, Chris Walker with the Houston Rockets, Michael Frazier will be with the Golden State Warriors and Casey Prather with the D-League select teams In addition, Glen Rice Jr., the son of the former Heat forward, will spend the summer with both the Magic and Rockets.
