A Davie man who works as a substitute teacher is accused of collecting illegal images of children having sex.

Omar Daniel Costa, 40, is charged with multiple counts of possession of child pornography.

He is currently jailed on a $52,500 bond.

According to a police report, investigators in July began tracking child porn linked to a computer in Costa’s residence in the 500 block of Barbri Lane.

The illegal files featured pre-teens having sex, young girls’ exposed privates and an 8 to 10-year-old girl stripping, masturbating and performing oral sex on a man, investigators said.

When police executed a search warrant at Costa’s home on Thursday, a check of the computer in the residence revealed it had 20 child porn videos, which Costa admitted to downloading, the report said.

Costa, a substitute teacher at Somerset Academy Village in Wilton Manors, told detectives “that he became bored during the summer since he was off from work and was curious about child pornography,” the report said.

Costa worked with all grade levels at the K-8 charter school, said Lynn Norman, a spokeswoman for the Florida Consortium of Public Charter Schools.

She spoke on behalf the school.

Costa also worked with special needs students and provided private tutoring, Davie Police Capt. Dale Engle said.

An emailed statement released by Somerset Academy Village Principal Anthony Marucci said Costa was placed on leave and would not be allowed on school grounds.
