Hamels strikes out 10, tops Orioles

Cole Hamels struck out 10 in eight innings, allowing one run on two hits, as the Rangers beat the Orioles 4-1 Friday night.

Shin-Soo Choo and Chris Gimenez homered. The Orioles have lost eight of nine and fell 31⁄ back of the second wild card. Twins 3, Astros 0: The AL West leaders, who’d won seven of nine, started Scott Kazmir against Kyle Gibson. The Twins had won six of seven and were 38-24 at home. Blue Jays 5, Tigers 3: Josh Donaldson and Troy Tulowitzki hit back-to-back homers. Jose Bautista also connected. The Blue Jays have won eight of 10. Pirates 5, Rockies 3: Josh Harrison drove in the lead run in the eighth. Gregory Polanco had three hits and an RBI for the Pirates, who’ve won six of seven. Royals 3, Rays 2: Kendrys Morales hit a two-run homer. Edinson Volquez allowed two runs on six hits in 62⁄ innings. The Rays fell 31⁄ games out of a wild card. Red Sox 6, Mets 4: Matt Harvey and the Mets opened their first home series with the Red Sox in 14 years. The Mets had scored 73 runs on a seven-game win streak. Yankees 15, Braves 4: Masahiro Tanaka tried to lift the Yanks out of a funk in which they had lost two straight and five of seven. The Braves had dropped 13 of 16. Indians 3, Angels 1: Trevor Bauer allowed one run on five hits in eight innings, striking out seven. Jason Kipnis drove in the goahead run in a three-run seventh. Marlins 4, Nationals 3: Martin Prado and Marcell Ozuna homered off Max Scherzer, who lost three straight starts for the first time since May 2010. Phillies 7, Padres 1: Rookie Aaron Nola allowed one run on two hits in strong innings. Cameron Rupp homered and drove in four. The Phils ended a four-game slide. Mariners 2, White Sox 0: Trayce Thompson was hitting .519 in his first 27 big-league at-bats. John Danks took on Taijuan Walker. Brewers 5, Reds 0: The Reds had lost 12 of 13, the Brewers four straight. Brewers RHP Taylor Jungmann had a 1.75 home ERA. A’s at D’backs: AL ERA leader Sonny Gray (2.10) tried to hand the D’backs their fifth loss in a row and sixth straight at home. Cubs at Dodgers: Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers sought their fourth straight win. The Cubs had dropped two in a row. Cardinals at Giants: Michael Wacha (15-4) sought a share of MLB’s wins lead. Mike Leake made his third start as a Giant.
