Man’s body found in Pompano canal

Broward Sheriff’s detectives have determined the body found floating in a canal in Pompano Beach was most likely the result of a medical issue andwas not a suspicious death.

The man was discovered before 7 a.m. Tuesday at 2701 S. Palm Aire Drive, officials said.

The canal flows east-west alongside a jogging path and is located between the Palm Aire Apartments to the north and a commercial area on McNab Road to the south.

As the sun rose, divers recovered the body while some residents watched from their balconies and other people jogged past the scene west of Powerline Road.

Palm Aire resident Ally Stafford, 25, was jogging by when she spotted the body about 6:45 a.m.

“I was coming back westbound and I saw him in the water and called 911,” she said. “I run here all the time.” About a dozen Broward Sheriff’s deputies were at the scene helping with the investigat­ion.

Theman’s identitywa­s being with held until his family could be notified.
