Donaldson’s 1st 3-HR game lifts Jays

TORONTO— Josh Donaldson had his first career three-homer game, Troy Tulowitzki also went deep and the Blue Jays beat the Twins 9-6 on Sunday to complete a three-game sweep.

“It’s one of those things, as a baseball player, you want to happen oneday,” Donaldson said. “You don’t know if it’s ever going to happen. It’s kind of a rare thing. Iwas happy to do it.”

Dozens of fans tossed hats onto the field to celebrate the home run hat trick after the reigning American League MVP hit a solo shot off Alex Wimmers in the eighth. Donaldson also homered off Kyle Gibson in the second and delivered a go-ahead two-run shot off Pat Light in the seventh.

“I’ve never had a curtain call before, so thatwas nice,” Donaldson said. “I tried to enjoy it for a second.”

Donaldson’s fourth multiplehomer game this season and 10th of his career was the 17th threehomer game in the majors this season.

“It doesn’t get any better than that,” manager John Gibbons said. “He’s heating up.”

Jose Bautista had his first three-hit game of the season for the AL East-leading Blue Jays, who have the second-best record in the league behind the Rangers.

The Twins, who lost their season-worst 10th in a row, have allowed eight or more runs in a franchise-high six straight games.

Twins outfielders Robbie Grossman and Danny Santana collided while chasing a high fly by Bautista in the first. The ball dropped in for a double.

Santana finished the inning but was replaced by Eddie Rosario in the second. Manager Paul Molitor said Santana would be placed on the disabled list with a sprained left shoulder.
