Florida Supercon is coming to Fort Lauderdale in 2017.

The costume-heavy nerd fest Florida Supercon will unleash its superheroes, aliens and human celebrities next year in Fort Lauderdale instead of Miami Beach.

Early-bird ticketswent on saleMonday for Florida Supercon 2017, set to assemble July 27-30, 2017, at the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention Center, 1950 Eisenhower Blvd. Single-day passes will cost $25-$65 for multiday passes and $225 for VIP before Dec. 24, when prices will increase.

The pop-culture convention is taking a break from the Miami Beach Convention Center, its home since 2014, as the massive hall is continuing a $615 million face-lift and expansion project slated to last through 2018. Florida Supercon organizer Mike Broder says the convention will be staged in Fort Lauderdale for the next two years.

“Because of all the construction right now[in Miami Beach], Fort Lauderdale’s convention center actually has more exhibition space,” says Broder, whose Supercon brought 50,000 people in July to the Miami Beach

Convention Center.

Broder says his trek north to Broward County was mostly motivated by logistical issues related to the expansion in Miami Beach, which included exhibition hall closures, fewer emergency exits and complaints from conventiongoers.

With themove to Fort Lauderdale, the city’s convention center has become nerd central. In

March, Brodermoved his other two popular fan festivals, the animethemed Animate Florida (coming Sept. 16-18) and comic book-themedMagic City Comic Con (Dec. 9-11), to the center.
