Don’t fall for old scam

- Martha Richards, Miramar KindestRegard, Fort Lauderdale Danny deVarona, Miami

Please alert seniors to an old scam that has resurfaced. People are calling and saying they are my grandchild and calling me by a name my grandchildren don’t use. When I said it didn’t sound likemy grandchild, the person said “I have a broken nose.”

Apparently they are looking for you to send money to your “grandchild” who is in trouble. Don’t fall for this. When I asked what the grandchild’s namewas he hung up. Today it was a girl with pretty much the same story. America’s primary system rigged

Over the last few months I have closely followed the campaigns of Democrats Tim Canova and DebbieWasserman Shultz.

I was happy to see the candidates finally debate on local television only to hear Wasserman Shultz say, on record, that she helped to elect Hillary Clinton during the primary.

It was my belief that the Democratic National Committee and staffwere to remain a neutral party during the primary process. What this reveals is the length to which officials have gone to undermine the democratic process, fleece Democrats, and engage in overt bias to elect their predetermined candidate.

How are we as voting constituents supposed to believe in a system that is, on record, as operating in an unfair and unjust manner? This election cycle has shattered my belief in the democratic process and party. Provide refugee kids with an education

I write you today as President Obama and other world leaders prepare for two critical summits in September that will determine the future of education for millions of refugee children. I encourage the president to commit the financing and policy changes necessary to ensure that every refugee child gets a quality education as soon as possible.

Our leaders need to deliver on the promise of the London Summit and ensure quality education is provided for at least 1 million outofrefugee children. If the current education plight is not addressed, one-third of primary children will not reach basic literacy rates by 2050 and universally we will see an entire generation of illiterate adults.

President Obama should make sure that theUnited States delivers on a plan to provide 1 million refugee children with an education this school year.
