Drivers face express lane work on I-95, I-75 and the turnpike

There is a lot of express lane-related work planned this week on South Florida’s highways, according to the Florida Department of Transporta­tion.

HOV lanes: There are no longer any high-occupancy vehicle or carpool lanes on Interstate 95 in Broward County. Drivers can sail along solo without fear of being ticketed because those lanes between Broward Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale and Southwest 10th Street in Deerfield Beach are being converted into express lanes. Overnight constructi­on wraps up about 5:30 each morning, Monday through Thursday.

Turnpike Extension interchang­e: The next phase of the Florida Turnpike Extension and Interstate 75 interchang­e gears up with the overnight closures of the northbound turnpike lanes, between 12 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. Monday through Thursday.

Flyover bridges are being installed between the turnpike and what will be the I-75 express lanes. Because that stretch of

the Turnpike Extension flows eastbound, drivers will be detoured off the turnpike at I-75 north to the Miramar Parkway exit, then along Miramar Parkway to rejoin the turnpike at Red Road / Northwest 57th Avenue.

In all cases, detours will be marked and work schedules could change because of poor weather or other unforeseen delays, the state said.
