It’s an event that never gets old and always an exciting time for the Crockett brothers of Pompano Beach.

The brothers’ 8th annual Crockett Foundation CommunityHealth Festival recently attracted more than 3,800 attendees to the Emma Lou Olson Civic Center in Pompano, who were all hoping to get a head start on the new school year.

The free event was open to the public and children received physicals, haircuts, dental care, vision checks, immunizations and other health benefits. After the screenings, free backpacks, school supplies and footwearwere distributed.

The Crockett Foundation’s message is to provide youth with educational opportunities, health resources and mentoring services. The nonprofit South Florida organization aims to improve the quality of life and build strong communities.

Former NFL players Henri (Atlanta Falcons/Minnesota Vikings) and Zach Crockett (Oakland Raiders/Indianapolis Colts) enjoyed successful careers in the league, but neither has forgotten their Pompano roots playing for Blanche Ely.

Zach, who serves as vice president of the foundation, took a red-eye from his job in California with the Oakland Raiders to attend the recent occasion. Hesaidhetook great satisfaction in seeing the goal being met of educating families on the importance of good health and making positive lifestyle choices.

“Everyone is here with big smiles on their faces, learning and getting everything taken care of for school preparation in one spot,” he said. “We’re serving our community and that’s what this is all about; service. Today is truly a blessing to see people come out here in these numbers. We’re not only serving the kids, but adults aswell.”

The Crockett Foundation partnered up with the Children’s Service Council, Hands on Broward, In Jacob’s Shoes and the Broward County Public School System.

Henri Crockett is theCEOof the foundation and was thrilled to see how the event continues to help people.

“The thing that I really enjoy is seeing the immediate impact this event has on children and their families,” he said. “We’re excited to have an impact on our community in an area where there is a real need. We have a lot of resources that children and adults can take advantage of. Everything is free and this is a way to lighten the load for parents.”
