Margarita fest

Five pours you must not miss this weekend.

- By Phillip Valys Staff writer The Fort Lauderdale Margarita Festival will run 5-8 p.m. Saturday along Southwest Second Street betweenNugent and Moffat avenues in Fort Lauderdale. Admission is $25. Call 954-463-2003 or go to Tacocraft.com/ Margarita2016.

Thisweekend’s cheap hangover will arrive courtesy of the Fort Lauderdale Margarita Festival, spiking the Himmarshee drag with 20 palate-tickling cocktails on Saturday.

A $25 ticket will grant unlimited sippings at the inaugural shindig, hosted by Taco Craft Taqueria and Tequila Bar. Twenty tequila vendors will clog up Southwest Second Street in front of the restaurant, and sling fruity twists on the salt-rimmed elixir. Proceeds will benefit the Peanut Butter and Jelly Project, a Fort Lauderdale nonprofit that provides food and clothing to local homeless shelters and veteran communities.

Beyond liquor, all three major food groups will be represented at the festival — tacos, queso and guacamole— and music will be provided by Fort Lauderdale reggae-funk act Bushwood Band and DJ Supreme1. Revelers can vote for their favorite margarita with a token provided at entry.

Here are five ways we

intend to abuse our livers:

Avión Tequila will pour the seasonally appropriate Headless Horseman, a mix of pumpkin puree, clove and cinnamon syrup, bitter orange and a dash of angostura bitters.

Partida Tequila will offer the Watermelon Fresca, whose deceptive name ignores the drink’s spicy punch: two strips of jalapeños, chunked watermelon and cointreau.

Corazón de Agave will serve a Blood Orange Margarita, a fusion of blood orange liqueur and blood orange puree.

For green-thumb drinkers, Herradura will

tend to the Gardener’s Helper, and blend fresh cucumber, lime and jalapeño juices, along with matcha tea syrup and basil garnish.

Don Julio will make a Hibiscus Lime Margarita fromits blanco tequila, and add orange liqueur, lime juice and hibiscus infused simple syrup.
