Yankees: RHP Masahiro Tanaka will miss his scheduled start Monday against the Blue Jays because of what manager Joe Girardi called a slight lower right forearm strain. Girardi said Tanaka won’t throw for five days but could start again before the regular season ends. “I feel like this is just a little nick,” Girardi said. “I’m not going to make too much out of this. I don’t think this is a huge thing.” Tanaka, who haswon seven straight decisions, is 14-4 with an American Leagueleading 3.07 ERA.

Giants: RHP Johnny Cueto had an MRI on Wednesday that confirmed a Grade 1 groin strain, which forced him out of his start in the sixth inning Tuesday. He is questionable for his next start, although manager Bruce Bochy hasn’t ruled him out for the Giants’ next series.

Twins: 2B Brian Dozier hit his 42nd homer in a 9-2 loss to the Tigers in the first game of a doubleheader. The home run was Dozier’s 40th while playing as a second baseman, a new AL record. Dozier became only the fourth player in history to reach 40 homers in a season while playing second base, joining Rogers Hornsby (42), Davey Johnson (42) and Ryne Sandberg (40).

RedSox: LHP David Price won his eighth straight decision as the Red Sox completed a four-game sweep of the Orioles with a 5-3 victory. Hanley Ramirez hit his 29th homer to send the Red Sox to their eighth straight win over an AL East foe, their longest such run since 1990. Boston has won 13 of its last 16 games to open a 51⁄ game lead over the Blue Jays.

Rangers: The Rangers reportedly signed infielder Yanio Perez to a $1.1 million deal. Perez, 21, became eligible to sign in May after leaving Cuba last summer.

Nationals: The Nationals reportedly offered C Wilson Ramos a contract extension “during the beginning of the season” but the parties have not spoken in some time, according toMLB.com. The offer was for three years at around $30 million. Ramos is eligible for free agency after the season.
