Miramar-based Spirit Airlines is on target to add new, nonstop daily service between Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and Akron-Canton Airport in Ohio, starting Nov. 10, the low-cost carrier said thisweek.

Spirit also plans to begin once-daily flights from Orlando International Airport and seasonal thrice-weekly service from Tampa International to Akron-Canton on that same day.

The airline first announced plans for the Akron-Canton route in July, but this week said it will also add nonstop daily service between Las Vegas and the Ohio airport starting April 27.

“We are excited for the growth of Spirit Airlines at the Akron-Canton Airport,” said Rick McQueen, the airport’s president and CEO, in a statement.

Separately this week, competitor Allegiant Air announced a change to its Ohio route from Fort Lauderdale. It plans to switch operations from Akron-Canton to Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, starting Feb. 15. Passengers with reservations for flights from Fort Lauderdale to Akron-Canton, for Feb. 16 and beyond, will have the option to switch their bookings to Cleveland, or receive a full refund, Las Vegas-based Allegiant said in a news release.

“This move to Cleveland will allow Allegiant to have a stronger presence in northeast Ohio and allow us to offer our low fares and convenient travel to even more travelers,” said Jude Bricker, Allegiant chief operating officer.

To mark its growth in northeast Ohio, Allegiant is offering one-way fares on the route from $39 for purchase by Saturday for travel by May 14, on allegiant.com. Seats are limited and restrictions apply.
