Dwyer wins with a late rally

PALM BEACH GARDENS — Quarterbac­k Toddy Centeio threw two fourth-quarter touchdown passes to receiver Oyeh Lurry-Davis to the lead Dwyer to a come-from-behind victory over visiting Palm Beach Gardens.

The Panthers (4-0) started their comeback following the recovery of a fumble by the Gators (2-3) at the at the Gators’ 47-yard line at the 11:01 mark of the fourth. At 7:21, Centeio threw a five-yard scoring strike to Lurry-Davis. The key play on the drive was a fourth-down pass for a first down from Centeio to Andrew Kasten.

The PAT to tie the game was unsuccessf­ul. That left the Gators leading by one.

On their next possession, the Panthers’ Levon Barnett intercepte­d a pass by the Palm Beach Gardens backup QB Angelo Navaroli at the Panthers’ 10-yard line. On the next play, Centeio connected with LurryDavis for a 90-yard catch andTD reception. The Panthers’ two-point conversion effort failed, giving Dwyer the 12-7 lead.

The only other score of the game was early in the first quarter when Gators starting QB Eli Matthews threw a 35-yard TD pass to Jacob Birmelin. Pierson McCallum’s PAT gave the Gators the 7-0 lead. A key part of the game for Gardens was when Matthews left the game in the first half following an injury. — Mike May

PIPER 33, NOVA 14: Freshman quarterbac­k Derohn King threw for 309 yards and had four touchdowns as the Piper Bengals defeated Nova at Bengal Stadium.

With the win Piper improves its record to 4-0. Nova falls to 1-3.

Senior receiver Ja'quez Geffrard was on the receiving end of two of the scores including an 81-yard effort that saw him split the secondary en route to the end zone.

King started slow, but led two scoring drives to take the game over. He finished the game completing 9 of his last 12 passes and the four scores.

With a 53-yard jaunt in the fourth quarter, junior tailback Markel Grant led all rushers with 72 yards on six carries. — Scott AlanS alomon

UNIVERSITY SCHOOL 53, VILLAGE ACADEMY 32: University School running back Kenneth McIntosh rushed for 117 yards and three touch downs as the Sharks cruised past host Village Academy in a non-district game.

The Sharks trailed 6-0 before scoring 27 unanswered points in the first half and took a 41-18 lead entering halftime.

The Sharks (5-0) defense created four turnovers, recovering two fumbles and they returned two intercepti­ons for scores in the first half.

Village Academy (2-3) senior running back Stephenson Camile rushed for 351 yards and three touchdowns in the loss. Camile, a Boynton Beach transfer, had scores of 64, 35, and 67 yards.

University School QB George Bubrick threw for 170 yards and two touchdowns.

Bubrick fired a 66-yard touchdown pass down the right sideline to Joshua Sanguinett­i to tie the score in the first.

McIntosh's 1-yard touchdown run gave the Sharks a 13-6 lead after the first quarter.

The Sharks pulled away in the second quarter as McIntosh bounced it out to the outside and turned the corner as he raced down the right sideline for a 75-yard touchdown run.

Tyler Scott's 35-yard intercepti­on return for a score extended the Sharks' lead to 27-6. Sanguinett­i had a 30-yard intercepti­on return down the left sideline for a touchdown to give the Sharks a 41-12 lead.
