‘Love Fest’ celebrates families
The Young at Art Museum in Davie recently brought Valentine’s Day celebrations to families during its 2017 Love Fest.
Visitors of the museum were able to learn about famous artists and how they shared and expressed their love to the world throughart. Thechildrenwere also able to create their own artwork inspired by the day of love, among other activities.
Mindy Shrago, the executive director and CEO of the museum, said that is important for them to show that love is significant and that it is everywhere.
“We want to really teach kids to love and respect everybody - their neighbors, their friends, their teachers, their parents,” Shrago said. “That is part of who we are, but then on another note, we’re making really cool art that ties into Valentine’sDay.”
Tia Dubuisson, amember of the museum, brought her daughters Jolie and Tiana, ages 9 and 6 respectively, for the celebration of love. She said the event was a special opportunity to express their affection for one another in a uniqueway.
“For us, I think it’s a love every day,” Dubuisson said
Dubuisson is especially appreciative this Valentine’s Day of what the museum has done for her daughters in terms of giving them the access to be creative. She added themuseumhas helped herdaughters gain a sense of accomplishment through art.
“These kids are all walking around with stories of love and what have you, but to be able to come to an event where that is actually extracted and put down onto something that’s tangible - this is what the museum here is for and itempowers them,” Dubuisson said.
The girls have even started their own business through their experiences at the museum called Belle Fleur Rainbow. They design and sell greeting cards, although Jolie hopes to eventually expand the line to more items.
“My favorite thing about Valentine’s Day is that everybody cares for each other and gives each other cards that get passed on,” said Jolie.
