Clinton calls for end of ‘us vs. them’

Former President Bill Clinton stressed the importance of inclusion, diversity and collaborat­ion to more than 250 mayors from throughout the country attending the 85th annual meeting of the U.S. Conference of Mayors in Miami Beach.

His 40-minute speech Saturday at the Fontainebl­eauHotelwa­s the conference’s marquee event. In it, Clinton emphasized the problem of “tribalism,” saying there is a sentiment slicing through society where citizens have little tolerance for differing political views.

“It’s become us versus them. I want us to win, and in order for us to win, they have to lose… if you did that you’d be out of a job,” Clinton told the mayors who lead cities with population­s of at least 30,000. The largest state contingent, from
