- Sun Sentinel staff

One man was found wounded after gun shots rang out in West Park early Tuesday. The gunmen may have taken off with a deputy in pursuit, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.

The shooting happened about 1:40 a.m. in the 2800 block of Southwest 55th Avenue, according to agency spokeswoman Keyla Concepcion.

The man with multiple gunshot wounds was taken to a hospital where his condition has stabilized. His injuries are not considered life-threatening and his identity has not been released.

A deputy who heard the gunfire “trailed the fleeing vehicle to Hollywood” — near 70th Avenue and Buchanan Street — where three people bailed out, Concepcion said.

One person inside the vehiclewas taken into custody and will face a charge of fleeing and eluding. However, detectives are still trying to determine whether the vehicle and those inside are linked to the shooting, Concepcion said late Tuesday morning.

Crime scene tape that had cordoned off the West Park shooting scene earlier had been removed by shortly after sunrise. A red Ford Mustang with bullet holes was being examined by a Broward deputy.

The car’s connection to the shooting wasn’t clear. There was no answer at the door of the home where he car was parked. The case is being investigatedbydetectives with theViolent Crimes unit of the sheriff’s office.
