Bill troublesome, especially forwomen Congress could take a cue on health care

- Sheila Jaffe, Delray Beach

When I had breast cancer, I was forced to deal with a pre-existing condition and the abysmal Florida high risk insurance pool. And as always, women are hit with the hardest choicesby the13menin the Senate who created this Trumpcare catastrophy.

If Trumpcare passes, women will go back to the days when we paid more for the same health coverage as men. We will also be charged five times more when we reach our 50s, which is the most vulnerable age forwomento develop breast cancer, according to the National Cancer Institute.

Planned Parenthood would be defunded even though the Hyde Amendment prevents taxpayer money from being used to fund abortion. PoorwomenonMedicaid would not receiveprevention, diagnosis or treatment. They would be abandoned and many will die. Would the 13 men on the Senate committee want this fate for their mothers, wives or sisters?

Trump is undoing every good thing Obama put in place. All he cares about is lowering the taxes of the rich. He could not care less aboutwater pollution, air pollution and health care. Why are the people such sheep? What is Congress doing? You know the saying: “Fish smells fromits head.”

Why does theU.S. not followthe Swiss health care system? Switzerland is also a capitalist country but it takes care of its people. Everyone is obligated to have health insurance. If you can’t afford it, you are subsidized after a thorough check of your finances. Doctors’ fees are capped. Specialists’ fees are capped. Hospital fees are regulated. Drugs are the same price at whichever pharmacy you go to. There is no such thing as running around from CVS to Walgreens to Costco to get a cheaper price, or getting coupons on the internet. Everything is regulated and people are happy with the system.
