Two firefighters were hurt after fire severely damaged one business and affected at least two others in a warehouse complex in Deerfield Beach.

The fire on the 4100 block of North Powerline Road, north of Sample Road, was reported just after 9 p.m. Sunday. The firefighters’ injuries were described as not serious.

One involved possible heat exhaustion, said Mike Jachles, spokesman for Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue.

The bulk of the damage affected a company that apparently deals in medical supplies. It shares a warehouse pod with two other businesses, the Bergen Sign Co. and a Dunkin’ Donuts supply commissary.

EarlyMonday the building was tagged with a red, “unsafe building” sign.

Richard Walker, who owns Bergen Sign Co., arrived at his business shortly after daybreak after getting an email and then telephone call from the building’s landlord.

“We justwalked through the place a little bit to check out the damage,” Walker said. “The front office here is pretty damaged.”

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Along with Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue, crews from several neighboring agencies, including the Pompano Beach Fire Department and theMargate/ Coconut Creek Fire Department, were on hand to assist in the firefighting effort, Jachles said.
