UnitedWay surprises technician with new car
LarryWeisman walked into his job this week expecting it to be a regular work day in his 18 years as anAT&Tservice technician.
He never suspected a crowd of happy faces would be waiting for him outside with an unbelievable surprise: a 2017 Honda CR-V RXL 2WD.
“I’m still in a bit it,” saidWeisman.
The car sat on the parking lot of the AT&T Service Yard in Plantation patiently waiting for its new owner, a gift that was made possible by United Way of Broward County and Holman Automotive Group.
KathleenCannon, presidentand CEO of the county’s United Way, said the gesture was part of the organization’s annual car giveaway that serves to thank donors for their generosity in helping them serve the community.
“The larger impact is that we’re helping 300,000 people here in Broward County with multitudes of shock about of services, andwe’re veryproudof that,” Cannon said. “Larry being a donor, he participates in that and he helps us do that.”
Weisman has been donating to UnitedWay for the past eight years through AT&T’s Employee Giving Campaign. He has also has a personal connection, as United Way has consistently helped people like his sister-in-law with disabilities.
“There are a lot of people out there that need help,” said Weisman. “United Way does a lot of and her children goodwork.”
Residents who donated a minimum of $260 at only $5 per week were entered into the drawing throughout the year. Weisman’s name was entered among thousands of fellow donors for the chance to win the car. The vehicle has been provided for the past 18 years by Holman Automotive Group.
Frank Perrone, general manager of Holman Honda, said it’s always exciting to go through the process of drawing a winnerandsurprising them with a new car. Perrone added that Holman’s values are all community based throughout its dealerships across the nation.
“It’s very important for us that we recognize what ourcommunity is and try to participate and help as much as we can,” Perrone said. “This is a small way of doing it but it’s really big tomany people, and it is to us aswell.”
