Correa, 60-win Astros pour it on

TORONTO — Carlos Correa, Jose Altuve and the Astros put on quite an All-Star performance.

Correa homered twice and drove in a career-high five runs, Altuve got three more hits and the Astros romped into the break by battering the Blue Jays 19-1 on Sunday.

The runaway leaders in theAL West became just the fifth team in the last 40 years to reach 60 wins before the All-Star Game, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. They joined the 1998 Yankees, 2001 Mariners, 2003 Braves and this year’s Dodgers.

At 60-29, the Astros head into the break with a 161⁄ game lead over the Rangers and the Angels.

“We have a really good team,” Correa said. “From 1 through 9, we can do damage, and today we showed whatwe’re capable of.”

Even in the midst of a 14-5 run the last three weeks, manager A.J. Hinch said the break comes at a good time.

“It’s nice to saywe should keep this going, butwe need to rest up in the next four days,” he said.

A day after his career-high 15-game hitting streak ended, Correahadfour hits. TheAll-Star had his fifth career multihomer game and second this season.

Fellow All-Star Altuve, Gurriel and Evan Gattis homered for the Astros.

Altuve had three hits for the fifth consecutive game. He became the ninth major-leaguer to do so inmore than a century and the first since George Brett’s record-tying six-game streak for the Royals in 1976.

Gattis drove in four runs with two hits as the Astros scored at least 19 for the fourth time ever.
