Five-star Koprivica transfers

- By David Furones Staff writer

Balsa Koprivica, a fivestar junior center, has transferred from University School to Windermere Prep.

“His mom said they wanted a change of scenery and were moving to Orlando,” Windermere Prep boys basketball coach Ben Wilson said. “They came in and toured and I think they signed everything that day.

“They’ve already paid their deposit and registration. He’ll be back right before school starts for us.”

Not a traditional center at 240 pounds, Koprivica makes his living on the perimeter, drawing comparisons successful NBA Europeans with similar frames like Dirk Nowitzki and Kristaps Porzingis.

Koprivica listed UCLA, Arizona, USC and Louisville to Rivals as schools he is strongly considering. Last season as a sophomore, Koprivica played alongside fellow 2019 standout big Vernon Carey Jr. to earn U-School a 20-7 record, District 14-5A title and regional semifinals appearance, falling to rival and eventual state champ Calvary Christian.

According to Rivals, Koprivica is playing in Serbia this summer for his country’s FIBA Europe Under-18 squad. He will be leaving Nike Team Florida for the Central Florida-based 1 Family on the AAUfront.

Koprivica is ranked by 247 Sports as the No. 2 center nationally in the 2019 class, while Rivals has him as the fifth-best junior overall. Both rate him five stars.
