A free Hurricane Preparedness Open House and the Cirque du Soleil show “Ovo” are among the highlights for South Florida families thisweekend.
Events for kids also include free movies, museum events and a Splash Your Way to Safety day at Castaway Island Water Park at Topeekeegee Yugnee State Park in Hollywood. The free event from 9 a.m. to noon today educates parents and their children about safe practices around water and drowning prevention through interactive demonstrations. Parents and children should wear their bathing suits; the first 300 children will receive a free swim shirt and breakfast (pediatricassociates.com/splashtowatersafety/).

Cirque Du Soleil: “Ovo,” through July 23. The high-energy performances of “Ovo,” meaning “egg” in Portuguese, create a rush into a colorful ecosystem of insects teeming with life.
