A free Hurricane Preparedne­ss Open House and the Cirque du Soleil show “Ovo” are among the highlights for South Florida families thisweeken­d.

Events for kids also include free movies, museum events and a Splash Your Way to Safety day at Castaway Island Water Park at Topeekeege­e Yugnee State Park in Hollywood. The free event from 9 a.m. to noon today educates parents and their children about safe practices around water and drowning prevention through interactiv­e demonstrat­ions. Parents and children should wear their bathing suits; the first 300 children will receive a free swim shirt and breakfast (pediatrica­ssociates.com/splashtowa­tersafety/).

Cirque Du Soleil: “Ovo,” through July 23. The high-energy performanc­es of “Ovo,” meaning “egg” in Portuguese, create a rush into a colorful ecosystem of insects teeming with life.
